Suffern’s Aviles has bright future

Suffern High School senior Robbie Aviles has been making news lately after throwing consecutive no-hitters here in Rockland County, including a perfect game against my old school, Nanuet.

I covered Aviles’ most recent start on April 28 when Suffern improved to 9-1 with a walk-off win over Clarkstown South. Aviles struck out 12 and allowed one run in front of at least 30 Major League scouts.

Check out my story on Aviles, it’s this week’s 2010 Draft feature on MLB.com:

Aviles’ story is pretty interesting — his father, Suffern’s pitching coach, pitched in the Minors for about five years and has clearly passed along some great advice to his hard-throwing son. Both told me on Wednesday they’re excited to get drafted and begin a journey to the Majors.

Check out my photo gallery from the start as well!
