McNary, West Point shuts out North Texas

I’ll post more photos later of Army’s 24-0 win over North Texas on Saturday, although you can check out quite a few of mine already in Army’s gameday photo gallery (along with some great shots from my buddy Tommy Gilligan) as well as a few over on GoBlackKnights.com, who asked me to help out this week.

This photo of Josh McNary, though, really summed up his game — he was consistently held, often by the facemask, and still just totally dominated and tormented North Texas’ passing game. He has to be Army’s biggest impact player, in my opinion — the guys blocking him just never had a chance, not even when they held (and the refs almost never called him on it). There’s a great piece in the most recent Sports Illustrated by Peter King that revolves around the three seconds or so that NFL quarterbacks have, on average, to safely drop back and throw the ball. When McNary comes, I’m not sure anyone has three seconds.

“We stayed hungry. We stayed in hot pursuit,” McNary said.

McNary had two sacks and tied the Academy record for 42 career tackles for loss.

“We’re back,” linebacker Stephen Anderson said. “It just feels good to have things click the way we practiced all week. Yeah, Army’s back.”

    Nah, neither. I missed the shot of Trimble’s pick, it was the corner of the endzone and I was probably around the 20 at the time, I was blocked at that angle.
