9/11 Tribute in Light lights up Manhattan again

Sept 11 1029

We were lucky to have a nice clear night here in New York for the September 11 “Tribute in Light” memorial this year. The annual 9/11 memorial consists of 88 lights that reach four miles up into the sky over lower Manhattan. For the most part, I was totally alone tonight along the edge of the Hudson looking for angles to shoot this, which was pretty cool — very quiet and surreal. This shot was taken from Pier A Park in Hoboken, NJ, just north of my train station. I took it at 12:37 a.m. before heading home… I believe this is the seventh year I’ve had a chance to see the lights.

This photo, which shows the newly-constructed Freedom Tower and lower Manhattan, was taken with a Canon 1D Mark IV and a Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L lens with a 30-second exposure.
