I aim to please: more Villanueva

By far the most searched thing on this obscure blog is Alejandro Villanueva, the huge senior wide receiver that led Army in receiving touchdowns in 2009.

So, here ya go, more shots of the big man, just for all you followers out there.

Why do people love this guy? I guess it’s fairly unusual how he came to be Army’s top receiver last year — his senior year was his first as a receiver, and he also was the largest such wideout in the nation. When I saw he was the real deal, grabbing a touchdown against Ball State and making some spectacular grabs on the sidelines, I started wondering how much of a legit NFL prospect he could be were it not for his upcoming military service.

Ali liked my shots too, and he was a great subject to shoot — easy to find on the field, always intense and part of the action, the smudged eye-black and huge arms. Army didn’t have much of a passing game last season, but they loved to just float balls over Villanueva’s head — no cornerback could touch this guy.

“Those are by far the best pictures I’ve seen so far,” Villanueva told me of my photos. “No joke.”

Good enough for me.

Most college football fans probably know him as just being an enormous receiver. Little known facts:

Ali was born and raised in Spain and has lived in Belgium, Spain and the United States.

He speaks three languages fluently.

He loves to fish and especially enjoys spearfishing and bass fishing.

Spearfishing? That I would love to see. How badass is that? The Corps shows some love:

This isn’t the first time I’ve blogged about No. 82 — check out my previous post with some additional shots from the 2009 Army-Navy game of Ali.

What’s it like trying to cover this guy? Take a look:

How’s that? Satisfy the craving? I actually have a lot more. Feel free to leave a comment or whatever if you like (or don’t like) what you see; I don’t promote this blog much so I’m curious how people stumble upon it and what they think.

I have been meaning to start posting some shots from last season’s football games. Maybe some similar posts on featured players? I aim to please, what would you like to see?
