Countdown to Army-Notre Dame

A convincing win at Kent State has Army fans buzzing about a bowl game and a chance to end the season with a winning record.

Army, which posted nearly 50 points in dominating the nation’s [former] No. 1 rushing defense, now faces Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium this Saturday in the Bronx in a nationally-televised game on NBC. The Irish come to New York following a big win over No. 15 Utah this past weekend.

I’ve created some promotional designs for the upcoming game featuring some of the top players from both teams. Army may be avoiding some of the Irish’s top talent (QB Dayne Crist is done for the year, so is leading rusher Armando Allen) but after upsetting the Utes, combined with the spotlight of the Bronx, I’m expecting an epic battle. Army and Notre Dame last met at Yankee Stadium in 1969.

Either way, this has been a tremendous year for West Point. The seniors know this is a chance to build some big confidence and momentum before their final chance to beat Navy.

Here’s some of the illustrations I whipped up (Notre Dame photos are from the AP):

Steve Erzinger ranks second in tackles for Army, while Robert Blanton is second with seven sacks for the Fighting Irish.
Tommy Rees took over the Irish offense last week; Stephen Anderson will be on a mission to sack the newcomer.
Pat Mealy is Army's third-leading rusher this year; Cierre Wood has stepped up for Notre Dame.
Rich Ellerson takes his triple-option offense to NYC; Brian Kelly aims to bring home a sixth win to South Bend.

You can see a few more designs featuring Jared Hassin, Jason Johnson and Austin Barr here.
